OCx Team Organization

The OCx process is all about teamwork, and the first step in implementing it is to establish a cross-functional, dedicated team. The initial goal in composing a cross-functional team is to include a minimum set of skills necessary to solve the complicated problems that are often encountered in malfunctioning building mechanical systems. For the Lab, this team was developed by matrixing approximately five existing full-time equivalents (FTE) from various departments.

Sprint Process

The Ongoing Commissioning team uses a repeating 4- to 5-week work cycle. This approach is core to the Scrum process in which work is prioritized in short “sprints,” rather than implemented according to long-term project plans. Sprints of two to four weeks are common in implementations of the Scrum framework. Each sprint includes an average of about ten building “deficiencies” - faults in building operation that prevent a building from working properly and waste energy or water. Sprints typically focus on a group of deficiencies in one or two buildings. Each deficiency is described by a title conveying the issue or the work needed to resolve the deficiency, along with an assignment to an asset (typically a building and piece of equipment).
